February 7th, 2:00 PM Friends of Fall Creek Falls Meeting Executive Committee Elections, Volunteer initiatives, Corporate Sponsorship and more. Piney Conference room, across from the cashier in the Inn February 26th & 27th Basket Weaving Workshop On this weekend, Jim and Nancy Phillips will guide you through the basics of basket making. There is a fee for this event and registration is required. For more information, contact the Nature Center at (423) 881-5708. March 6th FCF Thaw 15km Run & Weekend Excursion This is a 15km run traversing one of the most beautiful areas in the eastern United States. Entry forms are available from the park. A special package rate has been set for those staying for the Awards Banquet Saturday night. The price includes one night lodging in Fall Creek Inn, the banquet meal, and breakfast on Sunday morning. March 20th & 21st Waterfalls Weekend We will offer both easy jaunts and strenuous hikes to look at some of the area’s beautiful waterfalls. Please call the Nature Center at (423) 881-5708 for more details. April 3rd & 4th Easter Weekend Join us in the Village Area for an Easter egg hunt on Saturday. A morning sunrise service will be offered at Millikan’s Overlook on Sunday morning. April 10th & 11th 29th Annual Spring Wildflower Pilgrimage This is a very special weekend! We will explore the park and see many early spring wildflowers and breathtaking views. A variety of hikes, workshops, driving tours, and slideshows will be offered. April 16th & 17th Star Party 2010 Programs are entry level to professional level. Professional and amateur astronomers will be giving presentations. Dark sky field viewing will be Friday and Saturday night with alternate “bad weather” programs. There will be no registration fee. Your only cost for the event will be lodging and food. May 1st & 2nd New Event To Be Announced Memorial Day through Labor Day Summer Season at Fall Creek Falls Softball, nature hikes, canoe floats, campfires, horseback riding and bluegrass music are just some of the events that mark our summer season. Interpretive and recreational events are scheduled seven days a week. June 4th, 5th, & 6th Spring Rock Climbing Workshop First comes instruction in basic knots, harnesses, and techniques, and then we meet some of the milder bluffs and boulders in the park. June 11th & 12th Astronomy Weekends Join us at the Inn for discussions regarding constellations, lunar lore, and our brightest star, the Sun. July 4th Fourth of July Celebration Dress up your car, your bike, or yourself for our “traditional” parade, which ends in Campground A. After watermelon and cake, we will move to the field for events such a sack race, the egg toss, the water balloon toss and other family favorites. July 9th & 10th and August 6th & 7th Astronomy Weekends Join us at the Inn for discussions regarding constellations, lunar lore, and our brightest star, the Sun. August 15th Triathlon Push your limits in a 1.5km swim, followed by a 40km bike ride, and a 10km run. September 10th, 11th, & 12th 32nd Annual Mountaineer Folk Festival This weekend’s jam-packed schedule includes handmade crafts, 2 stages of traditional mountain music, demonstrations of pioneer skills, country cooking, and much more. Don’t miss this event! October 23rd & 24th Fall Colors Weekend Join us on bicycle tours, guided hikes, and slideshows focusing on the autumn splendor of Fall Creek Falls State Park. October 30th Wild Foods Day Field trips identifying edible wild plants and workshops on preparing wild meats and breads are just part of the activities. The real treat comes in enjoying the wild feast. November 5th, 6th, & 7th Fall Rock Climbing Workshop First comes instruction in basic knots, harnesses, and techniques, and then we meet some of the milder bluffs and boulders in the park. November 13th & 14th Backpacking Trip Join us for a 13-mile trek through some of the more remote portions of the park. This hike is for both novices and experienced backpackers and includes a 2-day guided hike with an overnight camp. There is a $10 fee and pre-registration is required. Contact the Nature Center at (423) 881-5708. December 3rd, 4th, & 5th Christmas on the Mountain Join us for a weekend of Yuletide fun, Christmas Carols and gifts for the little ones. Activities include Christmas crafts and tea parties for the children, and a 3-day mountain craft show for everyone. Don’t be surprised if Saint Nick drops in. . |
